The CBB operates through four specialized Units, each dedicated to advancing its scientific, training, and technical support goals. These Units cater to the needs of the scientific community focused on exploring and understanding the biodiversity of the Balearic Islands.
Four complementary units
The specialised units and Genetics Platform focus their efforts on studying biodiversity in the Balearic Islands, providing essential resources and knowledge for research, management, sustainable use and conservation regarding autochthonous flora and fauna.

Genetics and Bioinformatics
The Unit specializes in processing biological samples for molecular studies and conducting advanced bioinformatic analyses.
Equipped with a cutting-edge laboratory, it handles sample preparation with precision and supports a range of applications, including gene expression analysis, environmental DNA/RNA studies, transcriptomics, and metabarcoding.

Natural History Collections
The Unit is dedicated to the creation, management, and preservation of biological and geological reference collections in the Balearic Islands, including a comprehensive tissue and DNA biobank.
It is equipped with a state-of-the-art morphology laboratory, as well as advanced microscopy and photography facilities.

Data Management and Analysis
The Unit specializes in the systematic collection, management, storage, analysis, and dissemination of biodiversity data, and their correlation with geophysical, environmental, and genetic data.
The unit also offers IT infrastructure, including storage and computational resources, along with expert technical support to facilitate the management and analysis of Balearic biodiversity data.

Scientific Training and Dissemination
The Unit is dedicated to promoting knowledge exchange and equipping the Balearic scientific community with expertise in taxonomy, systematics, ecology, molecular tools, and bioinformatics.
We provide a diverse range of courses, workshops, and seminars tailored to various levels of complexity and depth.



Genomics Platform
