The Earth Biogenome Project (EBP) aims to sequence, assemble, catalog, and characterize the genomes of all eukaryotic species on Earth. This ambitious goal has been made possible by significant advancements in recent years in sequencing technologies and bioinformatics tools. Genome assemblies produced as part of the EBP must meet strict quality standards to ensure contiguity, accuracy, completeness, and chromosomal representation.
This 4-day course will focus on producing high-quality genome assemblies at the chromosomal level, demonstrating how to use long-read sequencing and Hi-C data effectively. We will cover all the steps involved in generating and evaluating genome assemblies, with a particular emphasis on the critical step of manual curation.

In this course we will offer an overview of sequencing using Nanopore, with emphasis on the application of this technology in the study of genome assembly, sequencing of specific areas with laboratory and computer enrichment, amplicon sequencing, and exploring new possibilities such as direct RNA sequencing and epigenetic modification detection. The course includes theoretical talks, laboratory demonstrations of the preparation of libraries and loading of the flowcell for sequencing, as well as the different bioinformatics tools for the use of the data generated using Nanopore.

This introductory course on phylogeny is designed to provide participants with a solid foundation in the core principles of phylogenetics, and to provide them with the necessary tools to autonomously analyze the evolutionary relationships between organisms. Throughout the course, participants will learn about the types of data used in phylogenetic studies, the structure and handling of different file formats, as well as key techniques for sequence alignment. Various evolutionary models that underpin phylogenetic tree inference methods will be explored, including Maximum Parsimony, Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian methods.

Introductory course to the basic procedures for data and sample collection. Emphasis will be placed on methods of sample preparation and conservation, data management and biodiversity portals (GBIF, Biodibal and CBBapp) will be presented. This course is designed to provide a solid foundation in these fundamental areas of scientific research and biodiversity conservation. During the three days, the basic techniques for the conservation of terrestrial and aquatic samples will be introduced, as well as the proper management of the data associated with these samples. By the end of the course, participants will gain the knowledge, protocols, and tools required to systematically and accurately collect and conserve samples across diverse environments.
