They presented the preliminary results of their project “Analysis of the vulnerability of marine invertebrates protected from the Sea Balearic Islands through genetic analysis”. This day took place on December 14, 2023 of Centre Flassaders in Palma.

It was made emphasis on the need to generate public and quality natural history collections at the service of science in Baleares, which are a reference and example of collaborative and open science and presented the initiative of the Balearic Biodiversity Center. This event was held on November 24 of 2023 at the UIB.

María Capa presented the oral communication: Mallorcan anchialine caves provide new discoveries of enigmatic annelids, as well as insights on coastal cave adaptations and connectivity at the V Congreso Ibérico de Sistemática Biológica in Madrid.

Two species of annelids new to science were presented from the caves of Mallorca. The new “Knowledge Generation 2022” project was also introduced, aimed at continuing to explore these environments in search of new discoveries, the evolutionary relationships of cave-dwelling organisms with those of the open sea, and the adaptations that have allowed them to survive in these extreme environments.

In this study, we estimated the current ecological niche and the probable future distribution of two species of endemic lizards (Podarcis lilfordi (Günther, 1874) and Podarcis pityusensis (Boscá, 1883)) of the Balearic Islands under climate change scenarios.
